Permanent Pacemaker Implantation
Assam's Premier Multi Superspeciality Hospital
About Permanent Pacemaker Implantation
Implantation of a small device that keeps the heart beating at a safe, steady rate.
Some heart rhythm problems make the heart beat too slowly or pause, causing dizziness, fainting, breathlessness and tiredness. A permanent pacemaker is a small battery-powered device placed under the skin below the collarbone, with thin leads that sense the heartbeat and send a signal whenever the heart is too slow.
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and usually takes about an hour. Patients are monitored overnight and are seen regularly at our pacemaker clinic to check the device and battery.
